Challenge play can be organized for any level with a quarter percentage difference in player rating. As another example, you can organize a 3.25 & 3.5 challenge.
With this example one court will be designated as 4.0 play the second court will be designated as the challenge court (2 – 3.75 players against 2 – 4.0 players) and the third court will be designated as the 3.75 play.
The play begins with Court 1 hosting 4 players at level 4 playing against each other with 2 – 4.0 players sitting off in round 1. On court 2, the challenge court, play begins with 2 – 4.0 players playing against 2 – 3.75 players. Court 3 will host 4 players at level 3.75 playing against each other with 2 – 3.75 players sitting off in round 1. Games will be played up to 11 win by 2 and when the first game is over, the remaining 2 games will go to rally scoring, first to 11 until complete.
Rotation Rules
When all 3 games are completed, player movement will be as follows:
The winners in court one will stay and split and prepare to play with the 2 – 4.0 players that were sitting off. The losing 4.0 players will go to court 2 and wait to play in the challenge court. The 2 – 4.0 players that were sitting off will go into court one, split and play in court 1.
Both teams in the challenge court will exit and sit in their respective sides and sit off for the next round of games.
Challenge court 2 will host the second round with 2 – 4.0 players going up against 2 – 3.75 players.
The winners in court three will stay and split and prepare to play with the 2 – 3.75 players that were sitting off. The losing 3.75 players will go to court 2 and wait to play in the challenge court. The 2 – 3.75 players that were sitting off will go into court one, split and play in court 1.

We could experiment with the King /Queen of The Court play format as a way to promote all-inclusive play with a fun competitive twist on 3 courts. One court will be designated as King or Queen Court (Court 1). King/Queen of the Court is an all-level play format that allows players to move from court to court in an organized way based upon whether they win or lose their match. Your goal is to get to the “highest” court to become the King or Queen of the Court, the real fun lies in just getting to play pickleball with your favourite partner!
King/Queen of The Court is an organized play format that works like this. We will spend the first 5 minutes warming up on the courts with your partner before getting started. Then a game will begin on each court first team to 11 wins. If you win your game, you and your partner will move one court over toward King/Queen Court and should you be on King/Queen Court you stay there. Should you and your partner lose on court 2, you will move to court 3. If you lose on court three then you stay on the court (3). The loser in King/Queen Court (1) leaves the court and the team that sat out goes to court 2.
Should you and your partner win 3 consecutive times on King/Queen court, you must exit and sit out one game while the team that was sitting out goes to court 2. Loser in King/Queen court stays in the court in that scenario. This continues on for the entire 2 hours.
QUEEN OF THE COURT 3.0 | QUEEN OF THE COURT 3.5 | KING OF THE COURT 3.0
KING OF THE COURT 3.5
14 Players - $8 Each
First come first serve to a particular court, if you arrive with 3 other friends, you are welcome to play together for the first game and continue to stay with your partner or group should you care to or if the number of players signed up allows you to.
How to challenge on to a court
All participating Players that are sitting and waiting for the first games to end will put their paddles on the paddle rack for the “specific” court on which they are rated and would like to play on. Each player can only have one paddle on a paddle rack at a time. When players rotate off of a given court, they can place their paddle on the same court or a different court.
Rotation Rules
Winning partners can stay on the court with a maximum limit of 3 consecutive games. If you win a game, you stay on the court for a second and/or third game. Play one game to 11 points, win by 2. The losing team must rotate off. After playing 3 consecutive games, winners must rotate off the court if there are 2 or more paddles on the rack waiting for the court. If winners are staying on the court and there are 3 paddles on the rack, then 1 of the winners must leave the court as well, along with the losing team. If 4 paddles are on the rack, then all 4 players must leave the court. If winners are staying on the court and there is only 1 paddle waiting, then the challenging player will team up with one of the losing players. Once you leave that specific court, you are welcome to place you paddles back on the same court or move them to another court.
Rules for Court Movement
Players must play on courts that are aligned with their skill level.
We encourage members to come out with other members of equal skill level.
Players are also encouraged to find a court that matches their skill within half a rating above their skill level. Players should NOT put their paddle on a court that is not aligned with their skill level just because it is the shortest wait time. Players who lose two or more consecutive games on a given court are strongly encouraged to put their paddle on a court with players that matches their skill level. Players who win 3 consecutive games on a given court are encouraged to put their paddle in a court with players with the next higher skill level.

A “round robin” is a structured form of play organized by skill levels. In the time given to each round robin session (120 minutes) you will play eight games, on two courts, each with a different partner and against a different pair of opponents. It is designed so that all players are playing against people of roughly equal ability, which makes play the most fun and competitive for most players.
When you arrive at the courts you will write your name on the round robin sign up sheet. Your name will be written next to a number, this number now becomes your assigned number and remains yours throughout the session and dictates which court you play on, with whom you are playing as a partner, and against which opponents. Your round robin Captain will be the first person arriving, assigning themselves as number 1. They will be responsible to call out the games on each court. Each game will be timed to 11 minutes by your Captain. By the end of the night, you will have played with eight different partners and against 16 different opponents! You may have a “bye” (where you sit out for one game) if there is an uneven number of players signed up. A ninth game consisting of the “bye” players enables everybody to play eight games.
The SLPC will appoint a Captain for the first week and be given a complete review of how the format works prior to the event. The captain will determine the rotation based on the, manages the signup sheet and the time clock. In order to keep everything running smoothly and on-time, the captain must do some advance preparation and be there 15 minutes earlier. It is important that players arrive AT LEAST 10 minutes before the round robin is scheduled to start. Late arrivals may simply not be allowed to play.
